2026 Castle View Boys Tennis

The 2026 Boys Tennis season is quickly approaching, with our first day on Monday, August 10th. Registration is now open. Please ensure your player’s Physical is valid for the entire season. Visit the Sabercat Registration page at https://www.sabercatsports.org/ to access the correct Physical form and full Registration instructions, including guidance for players attending alternative schools, such as Colorado Early College.

Varsity Tryouts 

Varsity Tryouts will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the CV Courts on 8/10. All players wishing to try out for Varsity must report at 3:00 p.m. so the coaching staff can verify clearance to participate. All returning Varsity players are required to participate in Singles Tryouts.

Please be prepared to travel to Butterfield Park for tryout matches during days 1–4.

Non‑Varsity Players 

Players who are not trying out for Varsity will begin practice with Coach Matthew at 3:45 p.m. at the CV Courts. Please arrive at 3:30 p.m. for check‑in and clearance verification.

Beginning this year, CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) has agreed to begin tracking JV match results in MaxPreps, just as they currently do for Varsity. Since this is the first year and it's not yet mandatory and may have some bugs, we will do our best to keep JV scores updated in MaxPreps while also maintaining a spreadsheet format similar to the one we use for Varsity.

2026 Boys Tennis Preseason Meeting

In addition, as part of CVHS Athletics’ effort to create greater consistency across all sports, our Athletic Director, Scott Dowis, will be hosting an in‑person Parent Pre‑Season Meeting in the CV Auditorium. Once the date is finalized, I will update it here and share it in our weekly email and GroupMe channel.

This kickoff session will last about 30 minutes, followed by sport‑specific breakout groups to review season details and answer questions. We expect to finish by 7:30 p.m.

Here is the desk we will be discussing.

Beginning this year, we will hold a mandatory in‑person meeting for all parents and players who are new to Varsity. This meeting will take place at the courts after practice once the Varsity roster has been finalized. The date and time will be announced later. During this session, we will review expectations for being part of the Varsity program, including attendance at practices and matches, commitment standards, and an overview of the season.

Varsity is earned, not given, and it requires a full commitment to the team. While we understand that life happens and will work with families when unexpected situations arise, leaving early for work—from practices, matches, or tournaments—is not permitted. Leaving early for doctor appointments or to make up schoolwork is acceptable and will always be allowed.

Most Varsity players will compete in Doubles, which means each player’s availability, consistency, and effort directly impact their partner and the entire team. Reliability is essential to maintaining competitive pairings and supporting overall team success.

There are two additional items that must be completed in order to participate, in addition to registration, payment, and having a valid physical submitted and approved before 8/10/26. The full Tryout Process is outlined in the  CV Tennis Player Handbook.

The CV Tennis Player Handbook MUST be read by both the player and parent(s), and the electronic signature page must be completed before the first day of the season, 8/10. If the required signature page(s) are not submitted by the start of Day 1, the player will not be allowed to participate until they are completed, which may affect their ability to play in tryout matches the first day. I cannot conduct a challenge match unless the Handbook acknowledgments have been completed by both the player and parent(s).

1. All Players and Parents are required to acknowledge the Player‑Parent Contract, confirm that both parties have read the Player Handbook, and understand the program rules.
2. If you are trying out for Varsity, you must also acknowledge the Varsity Tryout Contract.

Players only need to purchase uniforms once during their time at CV—unless a uniform is lost, a size changes, or you simply want additional items.

The Spirit Store is returning this year, and once I receive the updated link, I will share it here and through our regular communication channels. We will be partnering with a new company this season, as last year’s vendor has retired. The store will still feature a great selection of affordable hoodies, hats, and shirts for players, families, and fans.

The store will open on [date pending], and close on [date pending], so don’t miss your chance to stock up on gear. Orders will be delivered approximately two weeks after the store closes.

The tennis program uses two primary communication channels: weekly emails and GroupMe.

Weekly Emails 

A detailed weekly email is sent each Saturday or Sunday evening to recap the previous week and highlight all upcoming events. These emails include important information about practices, matches, logistics, and any required actions.

A shortened version—with a link to the full weekly email—is also sent out on Saturday or Sunday night for quick reference.

GroupMe 

GroupMe is used for time‑sensitive updates, especially those related to weather, which can impact practice or match schedules. All players and parents should be in the GroupMe to ensure they receive these rapid updates.

Last year, we launched two Instagram pages to highlight the journey of our Boys Tennis Team—one for JV and one for Varsity. Follow along and help spread the word to friends and family. Throughout the season, we’ll be sharing highlights, memorable moments, and team updates to celebrate our players and all their hard work.

The season schedule will be managed via calendar appointments, which will be sent out once the Varsity roster is finalized. These appointments will be sent to the email you used to register your son.

If any event needs to be updated—such as a match date or time—the change will be made directly in the calendar appointment, and the updated information will automatically sync to your calendar. Feel free to forward the event. Any updates I make may not be reflected in the forwarded invite.

For now, here is the link to the temporary spreadsheet schedule, which will be disabled and removed once the Varsity lineup is set, likely after the first two weeks of the season.

Since we are no longer managing our schedule through spreadsheets, we still need to coordinate Drinks and Snacks for our events. I am looking for one or two parents from both Varsity and JV to help oversee this and ensure that each event—including multiday Varsity‑only events—has Drinks and Snacks covered. Both JV and Varsity have tournaments at multiple sites that will require coverage as well.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. It makes a meaningful difference for our players and helps keep the season running smoothly.

I ask that phone usage be kept to a minimum during practices and matches, limited to contacting parents or teachers and handling essential communication. Phones should not be used for browsing social media while teammates are still competing. Players who have finished their match are expected to support those still on court.

Once all players are finished, the team may use their phones as they wish.
